WHU: the 5th global data center of IGS

Recently the president of IGS (International GNSS Service) officially informed that Wuhan University (WHU) was accepted as the 5th global data center of IGS.

The global data centers is the main interfaces to the analysis centers (ACs) and the user community in general. It archives the tracking data from IGS sites, GNSS orbit and clock products, Earth Orientation Parameters. The domestic user could download the data directly from the data center at WHU instead of others with much higher speed, once the WHU data center is ready for service.

As the plan of GNSS analysis team of WHU, the data center will also archive and provide the tracking data and precise products of BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) in order to promote the applications of BDS.

IGS, founded in 1993, is a voluntary scientific research and resources service organization supported by many governments. The ACs of IGS are the top-flight agencies on satellite navigation, which include Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ), European Space Agency (ESA), and so on. IGS has played essential role in the advances of satellite navigation technology in the past 20 years.

WHU has jointed the ACs of IGS and routinely provided the precise ultra-rapid orbit and clock products for GPS and GLONASS satellites with cm level accuracy to IGS since August 2012. As to the validation and comparison by IGS, the accuracy of orbits submitted by WHU is in the top-three of nine analysis centers of IGS. As to now, WHU is the only one institute which is not only the AC but also the global data center of IGS. This demonstrates that the GNSS team of WHU steps to the world’s leading ranks, plays much more important role and makes more contribution to the GNSS research.
